A Look At The 2016 Toyota 79 Series
It goes without saying that the 206 Toyota Series is a true icon in the world of off-roading. This model’s robust chassis provides a solid foundation for responsive control, making it a standout performer on any terrain.

With just over 100,000 kilometres on the clock, this rugged beast was already in stellar shape. We knew it had the potential to be transformed into something even more legendary, and that’s exactly what we set out to do.
Exhaust System Upgrade
We installed a performance exhaust system that not only looks good, but also delivers a whole new level of sound and performance. Being a pre-DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) model, this upgrade brings a seriously bold presence. It’s loud, it’s proud, and it makes a statement that’s impossible to ignore.
- Boosted Horsepower: Our high-quality aftermarket exhaust optimises exhaust gas flow, reducing restrictions and unlocking increased horsepower and improved acceleration.
- Enhanced Sound: Enjoy a deeper, more aggressive sound that perfectly complements the 79 Series’ rugged personality, enhancing every drive.

Multi-Mapping For Improved Driving
Our advanced multi-mapping system adds a new dimension of control and performance. 6 adjustable maps allow for effortless switching between different driving modes, adapting to any situation on the fly.
Better Power & Performance: By optimising engine parameters such as fuel delivery, ignition timing, and boost pressure, our multi-mapping system significantly boosts power and torque. This means better acceleration, better towing capacity, and better performance on and off-road.
Customisable Driving Experience: The multi-mapping system offers the flexibility to tailor the vehicle’s performance to specific needs, whether it’s tackling tough trails or cruising on the highway.
Improved Fuel Efficiency and Economy: The system fine-tunes engine parameters to maximise efficiency. This means more kilometres on each tank, without sacrificing performance.
What About Performance Gains?
We gave this 79 series our Package One upgrade, opting to add a multi-map tune too. Now, onto the exciting part – the performance enhancements!
We ran the 79 Series through a dyno test to see just what these upgrades could do. Here’s a quick look:
- Base File: The starting point, with 160 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque, provides a solid foundation for us to improve on.
- Tow Mode: Boosts the performance to an impressive 221 horsepower and 639 Nm of torque – great for improved towing capability and handling.
- Maximum Power: Achieves a remarkable 234 horsepower and 723 Nm of torque, delivering top-tier performance for any driving scenario.
These numbers are seriously impressive and represent a significant power boost over the standard specs. Whoever wins this car is in for a treat!
Custom Touches and Final Enhancements
But, we didn’t stop there. We also fine-tuned the idle to give it that distinct, lumpy feel and cranked up the exhaust to a whole new level of rowdiness. This gave us A 79 Series that roars and promises a thrilling driving experience.
As Matt himself put it, it’s a bit louder than his own 2.5-liter version – and that’s saying something!
