Three Questions You Need to Ask Before Handing Over
With the 4×4 show quickly approaching there will be a few companies at the show which will be selling ECU remaps, exhausts, and performance packages for your Diesel vehicle. We have put together a list of questions to ask any company who you’re looking at for tuning your diesel, to help you save time and money.
At Just Autos we will ask you various questions to listen to your needs so we can tailor a package to suit. With over 10 years of experience in tuning common rail diesel vehicles and setting up vehicles for touring & towing efficiently, we’ve got you covered!
Is my vehicle tuned in house?
A lot of the time when getting your vehicle tuned the person tuning it won’t be the same person operating your vehicle on the dyno, they can sometimes be tuned externally by a different company supplying a slave file which can be a generic file with a blanket percentage increase across tuning maps. This sort of increase may net you a small gain in torque and power but not always what the vehicle can achieve at its full potential which means you’re missing out and not getting your money’s worth. All custom ECU remaps are written in house at Just Autos with over 10 years of experience and knowledge behind all our remaps.
How safe is a remap to do?
A custom ECU remap can be the safest option when tuning your diesel vehicle with millions of dollars spend on the factory ECU the capabilities can be endless. One big mistake when carrying out an ECU remap is disabling certain safety parameters or zeroing off a map, which can cause big problems down the track. A custom ECU remap which is done correctly will leave all factory safety parameters in place which means as intake temperatures start to rise, coolant temperatures start to rise power can be reduced to stop any issues from happening.
How much does it cost?
Average cost for carrying out a custom ECU remap will be around $1,500 and for good reasons, with dynos, equipment and software running into over $150,000 a quality ECU remap will always be a fair expense. Just remember cheaper isn’t always best and what’s best isn’t cheap! Your vehicle for most people will be your 2nd highest outlay apart from your home and should be treated in such way, you wouldn’t allow your house to be built out of cheap materials that could cause problems.
An experienced workshop/staff will make you feel at ease when carrying out an ECU remap or any performance package. If you don’t feel confident when talking to someone about getting it done there is usually a good reason why! So, before you spend your money at the 4×4 show ask some questions, get a good understanding of what your getting done and what your going to achieve once all finished.
