Recently, we’ve had the chance to get up close and personal with the 2022 Toyota Tundra, an impressive modified specimen shipped in from the United States. Our aim, you ask? To unravel the intricacies of this vehicle’s potential and prepare ourselves for its imminent arrival next year. In this post, we’ll take you on a behind the scenes journey through our R&D facility, (where the magic happens!), and offer you a sneak peek into our process of testing this 2022 Tundra.
Our Testing Grounds: Just Auto’s R&D Facility
Our R&D facility in Caloundra is the heart of our operation. It is the perfect space for us to roll up our sleeves and get to work understanding the ins and outs of the vehicles we encounter and where the Tundra will undergo rigorous testing to evaluate its performance to develop our next line of performance upgrades and packages.
Our Imported 2022 Toyota Tundra
Imported from the United States, the Tundra is not a typical Australian model, featuring a number of modifications and differences. One noticeable difference is the size – the Tundra is substantially larger than the 300 series, both in length and width. It’s an extra cab model, offering more tray space while maintaining the chassis length of a dual cab. Despite this, the most important features that we need to test and develop, remain the same.

A Look Into Just Auto’s R&D Process
So, why did we import a Tundra, when we can just wait for release? The answer is pretty simple. As leading performance experts, it is crucial for us to understand these vehicles before they become widespread. Researching and developing performance enhancements on a client’s car is both challenging and time-consuming, so we take the initiative to familiarise ourselves with these vehicles ahead of time. This allows us to be ready with a range of performance upgrades and product lines as soon as these vehicles hit the market.
Getting Started
Our first step is to strip down the Tundra and identify its breaking points. This deep understanding will allow us to find the best ways to enhance the vehicle to its maximum potential. We’ve already conducted a baseline run on the Tundra in its stock form, achieving a maximum horsepower of 313 at the rear wheels. This was achieved in 7th gear with the converter locked, ensuring a true indication of its power.
However, the Tundra proved challenging to get a consistent dyno run in its stock form. Fortunately, after several tests, we found its performance to be remarkably consistent, with three back-to-back runs yielding similar horsepower results. In terms of torque, the Tundra is generating approximately 600-newton metres, exhibiting a flat torque curve typical of this engine type.

All in all, with a baseline of 313 horsepower, the Tundra is already a formidable machine and we’re excited to develop our performance upgrades. We’ll be working diligently from our R&D facility to bring you more updates on the Tundra and other exciting projects.
